Website disclaimer

The information provided on this website is intended for general educational and informational purposes. We make reasonable efforts to ensure that published information is accurate and current. However, we do not guarantee that all content is complete, accurate, up to date or suitable for every individual or purpose.

Information concerning relaxation, stress, anxiety, sleep, mindfulness, meditation, breathing, imagery, muscle relaxation, self-massage, health or wellbeing does not constitute medical, psychological, therapeutic or other professional advice. It should not be used as a substitute for assessment, diagnosis, treatment or advice from an appropriately qualified healthcare or mental health professional.

The inclusion of information about a particular relaxation technique, intervention, practitioner, speaker, organisation, publication, course, event, product or service does not necessarily constitute endorsement or recommendation by International Relaxation Day.

Views expressed in articles, presentations, interviews, videos or other attributed material are those of the individual authors, speakers or contributors. They do not necessarily represent the views of the International Relaxation Day team, National Wellbeing Service Ltd, Relaxation UK, conference supporters or their staff.

Using relaxation techniques

Relaxation techniques can be helpful for many people, but no technique is suitable for everyone or in every circumstance. Individual responses vary, and no particular outcome or health benefit can be guaranteed.

Participation in any technique described or demonstrated on this website, in an embedded video or during an International Relaxation Day event is voluntary. You are responsible for deciding whether a technique is appropriate for you.

Before beginning:

  • choose a safe and appropriate place;
  • follow the instructions within your own comfort and ability;
  • do not strain, force your breathing or hold your breath beyond what feels comfortable;
  • avoid movements, muscular tension or self-massage that cause pain;
  • stop if you experience pain, dizziness, faintness, unusual breathlessness, marked discomfort, panic, distress or other concerning symptoms; and
  • seek appropriate professional advice if symptoms persist or concern you.

Do not practise a relaxation technique while driving, operating machinery, in or near water, or in any situation in which reduced alertness could place you or another person at risk.

If you have a medical condition, breathing or cardiovascular difficulty, mobility limitation, injury, are pregnant, experience significant psychological distress, or have any other concern about suitability, consult an appropriately qualified professional before using a new technique. Children and young people should use techniques with suitable adult guidance and supervision.

Relaxation techniques should not be used to delay seeking healthcare, and you should not stop or alter prescribed medication or treatment without consulting the professional responsible for your care.

If you believe that you or another person may be at immediate risk of harm or experiencing a medical emergency, contact the emergency services or an appropriate crisis service in your country.

Embedded videos, audio and third-party content

Some pages contain embedded YouTube videos or other material produced and hosted by independent professionals, organisations or platforms. This material is provided for general information and convenience.

Although reasonable care may be taken when selecting resources, the International Relaxation Day team do not control third-party content and cannot guarantee its continuing accuracy, availability, accessibility, safety or suitability. A presenter’s qualifications or professional status may also change after a resource has been added.

The inclusion of an embedded video, recording or resource does not transfer responsibility for its content to International Relaxation Day and does not necessarily constitute endorsement of its presenter, channel, organisation, techniques, products or services.

YouTube and other platforms may collect information or place cookies in accordance with their own terms and privacy policies. Users should review the policies and settings of the relevant platform.

If you believe that an embedded resource is inaccurate, unsafe, inappropriate or infringes copyright, please contact us so that it can be reviewed.

Conference and event disclaimer

The annual International Relaxation Day Conference and related events are provided for education, professional discussion and general public information. They are not intended to provide individual healthcare, psychological therapy, diagnosis or treatment.

Speakers and facilitators may discuss or demonstrate relaxation techniques, wellbeing practices or other interventions. International Relaxation Day and National Wellbeing Service Ltd cannot guarantee that every technique presented by an independent contributor will be effective, appropriate or safe for every participant.

Participation in a demonstration is voluntary. Attendees are not obliged to undertake any exercise and may pause or stop at any time. Attendees remain responsible for considering their health, circumstances and environment before taking part and for seeking professional advice when appropriate.

Presentations or discussions may include personal experiences, sensitive subjects or material that some attendees could find distressing. Attendees may leave or temporarily withdraw from a session if they feel uncomfortable.

The views and opinions expressed by speakers, panellists and contributors are their own and do not necessarily represent those of International Relaxation Day team, National Wellbeing Service Ltd, Relaxation UK, conference supporters, sponsors or staff.

Programmes, speakers, timings, delivery platforms and access arrangements may need to change without notice. We cannot guarantee uninterrupted access to events delivered through third-party platforms such as Zoom or YouTube.

Where a session is to be recorded, participants will be informed through the available event information or at the event. Attendees should take reasonable steps to protect their own privacy and should not disclose confidential or sensitive personal information during public or recorded sessions.

Attendance at a conference or event, or receipt of a continuing professional development certificate, does not constitute professional accreditation, certification of competence or authorisation to practise a technique.

Unless otherwise stated, website and event content is protected by copyright and other intellectual-property rights belonging to International Relaxation Day team, National Wellbeing Service Ltd, Relaxation UK, or the relevant author, presenter or contributor.

Content, presentations, videos, recordings, handouts and other materials may not be copied, recorded, republished, sold, adapted, distributed or otherwise commercially exploited without permission from the relevant rights holder.

Brief quotation or sharing may be permitted where allowed by law, provided that the source and author are appropriately acknowledged.

Speakers and contributors are responsible for ensuring that they own, or have permission to use, material included in their contributions. If you believe that material on the website or within an event infringes your rights, please contact us so that the matter can be investigated.
