Relaxation-Based Coaching (RBC) is the application of evidence-informed relaxation techniques and methods within a coaching framework to elicit the coachee’s Relaxation Response and reduce activation of the Stress Response, thereby enhancing psychological and/or physiological wellbeing and performance.

Where appropriate, relaxation techniques methods may be introduced and practiced during coaching sessions and/or assigned as between-session exercises, supported by recordings or self-help materials to facilitate independent practice and skill generalisation. (Palmer, 2025).

Relaxation-Based Coaching Psychology (RBCP) applies psycho-physiological theory and research to the study and application of relaxation-based techniques and methods within a coaching context to enhance wellbeing, performance and stress management. (Palmer, 2025)
